أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الرَّازِيُّ، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَى بِخَاتَمٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَجَعَلَهُ فِي يَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ، فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ نَزَعَهُ، فَقَالَ: " لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا فَاتَّخَذَهُ مِنْ وَرِقٍ ". رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ.
Nafi' narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a gold ring was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) put it on his right hand and turned its stone towards his palm, and the people then made gold rings for themselves. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this, he took it off and said: "I will never wear it." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) had a silver ring made.
