(a) Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a man of Banu Thaqif named al-Hakam or Abu al-Hakam, who narrates from his father, that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing ablution: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) took a handful of water and sprinkled it."
(b) Mujahid narrates it from al-Hakam or Abu al-Hakam bin Sufyan al-Thaqafi with a connected (musnad) chain, but here they did not mention his father.
(c) Mujahid narrates it from al-Hakam bin Sufyan, and they did not mention his father's name.
(d) Imam Abu Isa (al-Tirmidhi) asked Imam Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) about this hadith, and he said: "The narration of Shu'bah and Wuhayb with 'from his father' is the correct one." Ibn Uyaynah also narrates 'from his father' in this hadith. Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Ibn Uyaynah narrates it from Mansur; once he mentioned his father in it, and another time he did not mention him."
