Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the news of the killing of Ibn Harithah, Ja'far and Ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with them) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he sat in such a state that grief was evident on him, and I was watching through the crack of the door. A man came and said: "The women of Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) are weeping a great deal." He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to forbid them, so he went. Then he came a second time and said that they were not obeying. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Forbid them." Then he came a third time and said: "By Allah, they have overpowered us, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!" She related that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then throw dust into their mouths." I said: "May Allah rub your nose in the dust! You did not do what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded you, nor did you stop troubling the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
