Amr bin Maymun (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I saw Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) in Madinah before he was martyred, and he mentioned (the account of) his martyrdom. In it is also that he said to his son Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Go to the Mother of the Believers, Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and tell her that Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sends his greetings of peace; and do not say 'the Commander of the Believers', for I am no longer the Commander of the Believers. And tell her that Umar bin al-Khattab seeks permission to be buried with his two companions." He said: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the greeting and sought permission, then went in to her and found her sitting and weeping. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Umar bin al-Khattab sends you greetings of peace and seeks permission to be buried with his two companions." She said: "I had wanted it for myself, but today I will give Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) preference over myself." Then he came back, and it was said: This is Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who has come. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Raise me up." So a man propped him up against himself, and he said: "What news do you have?" Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Commander of the Believers, what you would like: she has given permission." He said: "Praise be to Allah! Nothing was better for me than that resting place. When I die, carry me there, then give the greeting and say: Umar bin al-Khattab seeks permission. If she gives you permission, bring me in; and if she refuses, take me back to the graveyard of the Muslims." And he narrated the full hadith. He says: When he passed away, we set out with him, and when we arrived there, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) gave the greeting and said: "Umar bin al-Khattab seeks permission." She said: "Bring him in." So they brought him in, and he was laid there with his two companions.
