Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) said that his daughter died, and he went out in her funeral procession on a mule behind the bier. The women began to recite elegies, so Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not recite elegies, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade elegies; rather, let any one of you shed as many tears as she wishes." Then he offered the funeral prayer over her and said four takbirs, and after the fourth takbir he stood for as long as the interval between two takbirs, seeking forgiveness for her and supplicating. Then he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do this."
