Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a woman brought a woven cloak to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which had a border. Then he said: "Do you know what this burdah is?" They said: It is a sheet (shamlah). He said: "Yes, yes." The woman said: "I wove it with my own hands, and I have brought it so that I may clothe you (peace and blessings be upon him) with it." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put it on, as though he felt a need for it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, and it was his waist-wrapper or his upper garment (Abu Ibrahim was unsure). A man, whom he named that day, touched it and said: "How fine this cloak is! Will you give it to me to wear?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went into his house, he sent that cloak to that Companion. The people said to him: "By Allah! You did not do well; he (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it because he needed it, yet you asked him for it, and you know that he (peace and blessings be upon him) does not turn away anyone who asks." He said: "By Allah! I did not ask for it except so that it may be my shroud when I die." Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When he died, that very cloak became his shroud.
