Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The sun was eclipsed in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for so long that people began to say: He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not bow. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed for so long that people began to say: He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not raise his head from the bowing. When he raised his head from the bowing, it was said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not prostrate. Then when he prostrated, it was so long that people began to say: He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not raise his head from the prostration. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and sat, and remained sitting for a long time, and it was said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) will not prostrate. Then he prostrated and made the prostration long, then raised his head from the prostration, and did the same in the second rak'ah, until the sun became bright.
Ata' bin al-Sa'ib (may Allah have mercy on him) and others mentioned the long prostrations from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), but did not retain the mention of two bowings in one rak'ah.
Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) retained the mention of two bowings in one rak'ah, and he narrated the mention of the long prostrations from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
