Abu Uthman al-Nahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) used to teach us the takbirs. He would say: Say takbir: 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbaru kabira' (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, most great). Then he would say: 'Allahumma anta a'la wa ajallu min an takuna laka sahibah, aw yakuna laka walad, aw yakuna laka sharikun fil-mulk, aw yakuna laka waliyyun minadh-dhull, wa kabbirhu takbira. Allahummaghfir lana, Allahummarhamna'
(O Allah, You are too exalted to have a consort, or a child, or a partner in the dominion, or a protector out of weakness; and magnify Him with all magnificence. O Allah, forgive us; O Allah, have mercy on us). Then he would say: This shall be written; these two shall not be left out, rather they shall be made a pair.
