(a) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever washes his limbs and then takes a bath, sets out early in the morning for Jumu'ah, sits close to the imam, listens attentively to the sermon and stays silent, for every step he takes he will have the reward of a year of standing in prayer and fasting."
The error in its chain and its text comes from this Uthman al-Shami; the correct version is the narration of the group from Abu al-Ash'ath, from Aws, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
(b) It is narrated from Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him) that, regarding the words 'washes and bathes', he said: it means he washes his head and his body. Sa'id bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said the same. This is the correct view, because they used to put khitmi (marshmallow) or something else in their hair, so they would first wash their heads and then take a bath.
