أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ الْحَافِظُ، أنبا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الضَّبِّيُّ، ثنا الْقَاسِمُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ بِمِصْرَ، ثنا عَمِّي يَعْنِي مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْأَيْلِيَّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: " بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا جُمِّعَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْدُمَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَمَّعَ بِالْمُسْلِمِينَ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: وَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّهُ لَا جُمُعَةَ إِلَّا بِخُطْبَةٍ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَخْطُبْ صَلَّى أَرْبَعًا ".
Al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It reached us that the first Friday prayer was held before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah; Mus'ab bin Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him) led the Muslims in the Friday prayer. And it also reached us that there is no Friday prayer except with a sermon; whoever does not deliver the sermon should pray four rak'ahs.
