Iyad bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I saw Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) enter the mosque on a Friday while Marwan was delivering the sermon. He prayed two rak'ahs. A royal guard came to him to make him sit down, but he refused until he had prayed the two rak'ahs. When we left after finishing, we said: O Abu Sa'id! They were about to harm you. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I would not abandon, for anything, what I saw from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw a man in a shabby state while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the Friday sermon. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O so-and-so! Have you prayed?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray two rak'ahs." Then the same man entered on the next Friday while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the Friday sermon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O so-and-so! Have you prayed?" He said: No. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray two rak'ahs."
