Bayhaqi 5597 — One who comes to Friday prayer voluntarily from farther

Thabit bin Mishhal, the freed slave of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), says that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) would be at al-Shajarah, and when Jumu'ah came he would not go down to it, even though he had riding animals.
The Shaykh says: This indicates that coming (to Jumu'ah) was a matter of choice; and a group held that whoever can get back to his family by nightfall after leaving must attend it.
