Bayhaqi 5538 — Combining two prayers while travelling

Yahya bin Sa'id asked Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar: What is the longest you saw your father, Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), delay Maghrib on a journey? He said: The sun set for him at a place called Dhat al-Jaysh, and he prayed it at a place called al-Aqiq. Al-Thawri narrated this same hadith from Yahya bin Sa'id and added some words: there is a distance of eight miles between them. Ibn Jurayj narrated it from Yahya bin Sa'id, and it contains these words: I said: What hour was that? He said: A third or a quarter of the night had passed. Yahya bin Sa'id narrates from Nafi' that he travelled several miles, then dismounted and prayed. In another place it is narrated from Nafi' that he travelled for close to a quarter of the night, then dismounted and prayed.
