أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ، ثنا شَاذَانُ الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: " كُنَّا إِذَا تَعَلَّمْنَا مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، لَمْ نَتَعَلَّمْ مِنَ الْعَشْرِ الَّتِي نَزَلَتْ بَعْدَهَا حَتَّى نَعْلَمَ مَا فِيهِ ". قِيلَ لِشَرِيكٍ: مِنَ الْعَمَلِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ.
Abu Abd al-Rahman narrates from Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): When we learned ten verses from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we would not learn the verses revealed after them until we had learned all the rulings of the earlier verses. Sharik was asked about practice (whether it meant acting on them), and he said: Yes.
