Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then lead his people in prayer. One night he prayed the Isha prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then came to his people and began Surah al-Baqarah in the prayer. A man gave the salam, separated himself and prayed on his own.
No one in this hadith said "gave the salam" except Muhammad bin Abbad.
