أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّسَوِيُّ، ثنا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ بَكْرٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الْأَزْهَرِ، وَالْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ، أَرْسَلُوهُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالُوا: اقْرَأْ عَلَيْهَا السَّلَامَ مِنَّا جَمِيعًا وَسَلْهَا عَنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، إِنَّا أُخْبِرْنَا أَنَّكَ تُصَلِّيهَا، وَقَدْ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْهَا قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسً: وَكُنْتُ أَضْرِبُ النَّاسَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَلَيْهَا. قَالَ كُرَيْبٌ: فَدَخَلْتُ وَبَلَّغْتُهَا مَا أَرْسَلُونِي بِهِ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، فَقَالَتْ: سَلْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ فَخَرَجْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ بِقَوْلِهَا فَرَدُّونِي إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ بِمِثْلِ مَا أَرْسَلُونِي بِهِ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنْهَا، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّيهَا أَمَّا حِينَ صَلَّاهُمَا فَإِنَّهُ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ وَعِنْدِي نِسْوَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي حَرَامٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَصَلَّاهُمَا، فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ الْجَارِيَةَ فَقُلْتُ: قَوْمِي بِجَنْبِهِ وَقُولِي لَهُ: تَقُولُ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أَسْمَعُكَ تَنْهَى عَنْ هَاتَيْنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ، وَأَرَاكَ تُصَلِّيهِمَا، فَإِنْ أَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ فَاسْتَأْخِرِي عَنْهُ، قَالَتْ: فَفَعَلَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ، فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ، فَاسْتَأْخَرَتْ عَنْهُ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: " يَا بِنْتَ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ سَأَلْتِ عَنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي أُنَاسٌ مِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ بِالْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ قَوْمِهِمْ فَشَغَلُونِي عَنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ فَهُمَا هَاتَانِ " رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ، عَنْ حَرْمَلَةَ.
It is reported from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Azhar and Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with them) sent Kurayb, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the honoured wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and said: Convey our greetings of peace and ask about the two rak'ahs after Asr, for we have learned that you pray them, whereas the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and I used to beat people over this. Kurayb said: I asked, and she sent me to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). I went back to them and said: She has sent me to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). They said to me: Go to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), then. When I came to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked, she said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid it, but I have also seen him (peace and blessings be upon him) pray it after Asr. At that time some women of Banu Haram were with me. I sent a girl to him (peace and blessings be upon him), telling her: Stand beside him (peace and blessings be upon him) and say to him (peace and blessings be upon him) that Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: "O Messenger of Allah, you forbid these two rak'ahs, yet you are praying them yourself?" If he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestures with his hand, step back. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The girl did so, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand, she stepped back. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, he said: "O daughter of Abu Umayyah, you asked about the two rak'ahs after Asr? People of the tribe of Abd al-Qays came to me who had become Muslim, and because of them I could not pray the two rak'ahs after Zuhr; these are those."
