وَأنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، ثنا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، ثنا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ، قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: إِنِّي رَجُلٌ سَرِيعُ الْقِرَاءَةِ، وَرُبَّمَا قَرَأْتُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: " لَأَنْ أَقْرَأَ سُورَةً وَاحِدَةً أَعْجَبُ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَفْعَلَ مِثْلَ الَّذِي تَفْعَلُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ فَاعِلًا لَا بُدَّ فَاقْرَأْهُ قِرَاءَةً تُسْمِعُ أُذُنَيْكَ وَيَعِيهِ قَلْبُكَ ".
Abu Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): I am a man who recites quickly, and sometimes I recite the Qur'an once or twice in a single night. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: That I should recite just one surah is more beloved to me than doing what you do (that is, completing it once or twice in one night).
