وَأنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: إِنِّي سَرِيعُ الْقِرَاءَةِ، إِنِّي أَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي ثَلَاثٍ قَالَ: لَأَنْ أَقْرَأَ الْبَقَرَةَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ فَأَتَدَّبَّرَهَا وَأُرَتِّلَهَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ أَنْ أَقَرَأَهَا كَمَا تَقْرَأُ ".
Abu Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) related: I said to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): I recite the Qur'an very fast; I recite the (whole) Qur'an in three (days)! He said: That I should recite only Surah al-Baqarah in one night, reflecting on it and reciting it slowly and distinctly, is more beloved to me than that I should recite the way you do.
