It is narrated from Kurayb, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that Abdullah bin Abbas, Abd al-Rahman bin Azhar and al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with them) sent him to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the honoured wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and she said: Then he mentioned the complete hadith about the two rak'ahs after Asr, and said: They sent me on to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). So Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding these two rak'ahs after the Asr prayer, but I also saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) praying these two rak'ahs. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Asr and came to me, and at that time some women of Banu Haram from the Ansar were sitting with me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed these two rak'ahs, so I sent a girl to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and told her to stand at his side (peace and blessings be upon him), and I said: Tell him that Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) is saying: O Messenger of Allah! I heard you forbidding these two rak'ahs, and now I see you praying them? If he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestures, then step back. The girl did so, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand, so she moved away from him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "O daughter of Abu Umayyah! You asked about praying two rak'ahs after the Asr prayer. That is because people of the tribe of Abd al-Qays came to me; they told me about the Islam of their people, and they kept me busy from the two rak'ahs after Zuhr. These two rak'ahs are those."
