Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) called for water, then performed ablution: he washed his palms three times, rinsed his mouth three times, sniffed water into his nose three times, washed his face three times, washed his forearms three times each, wiped his head three times and washed his feet three times each. Then he said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution."
(b) Wiping the head three times is reported from Imam Abu Hanifah (may Allah have mercy on him).
(c) Za'idah bin Qudamah, Abu Awanah and others narrated it from Khalid bin Alqamah without mentioning repetition in the wiping of the head; likewise the group narrated it from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) (without repetition), except for what is shadh (anomalous) among them.
