Bayhaqi 2907 — Those who said one does not recite behind the imam

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ هُوَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ وَفِي آخِرِهِ قَالَ: شُعْبَةُ فَقُلْتُ لِقَتَادَةَ كَأَنَّهُ كَرِهَهُ، فَقَالَ: لَوْ كَرِهَهُ لَنَهَى عَنْهُ وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " لَا تَجُوزُ صَلَاةٌ إِلَّا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنْ كَرِهَ مِنَ الْقَارِئِ خَلْفَهُ شَيْئًا كَرِهَ الْجَهْرَ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ دُونَ الْقِرَاءَةِ نَفْسِهَا وَهُوَ مِثْلُ مَا ".
(a) Shu'bah said: "I said to Qatadah: Perhaps he did not approve of reciting behind the imam?" He said: "Had he not approved of it, he would certainly have forbidden it."
(b) It has been narrated to us from Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "No prayer is valid without Surah al-Fatihah." If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disapproved of the one reciting behind him, it was his reciting aloud that he disliked, not reciting within oneself (that is, he disapproved of his recitation because he was reciting aloud, which was disturbing his own recitation).
(b) It has been narrated to us from Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "No prayer is valid without Surah al-Fatihah." If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disapproved of the one reciting behind him, it was his reciting aloud that he disliked, not reciting within oneself (that is, he disapproved of his recitation because he was reciting aloud, which was disturbing his own recitation).
