Bayhaqi 2904 — Those who said one does not recite behind the imam

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، أنبأ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، أنبأ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ فَقَالَ: " إِنْ قَرَأْتَ فَقَدْ قَرَأَ قَوْمٌ كَانَ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ، وَالْأَخْذُ بِأَمْرِهِمْ، وَإِنْ تَرَكْتَ فَقَدْ تَرَكَ قَوْمٌ كَانَ فِيهِمْ أُسْوَةٌ " قَالَ: " وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَا يَقْرَأُ ".
Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) about reciting behind the imam, and he said: If you recite, then great people whose lives are an example, and whose way is followed, also recited; and if you do not recite, then many people whose lives are an example for us also did not recite.
