Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication in prayer: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-masihid-dajjali, wa a'udhu bika minal-ma'thami wal-maghrami' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the False Messiah (al-Masih al-Dajjal), and I seek refuge in You from the trial of sin and debt.) Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah, why is it that you seek refuge from debt so often? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man falls into debt, he resorts to lying, and he also breaks his promises."
