(a) Hittan bin Abdullah al-Raqashi says that Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) led his companions in prayer. When he sat in the prayer, a man said: "The prayer has been established along with righteousness and purity." When Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) completed the prayer, he said: "Who said these words?" All the people fell silent, so he said to me: O Hittan, it seems you said them. I said: I did not say them, and I was afraid that you might punish me because of it. Then Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you not know what you recite in your prayer? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us; he (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the Sunnahs and instructed us in the prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Straighten the rows, then let one of you lead you in prayer. When he says the takbir, you say the takbir, and when the imam says 'Not of those who have earned (Your) anger, nor of those who go astray' [Surah al-Fatihah: 7], say Amin; Allah will answer your supplication. When he bows, you bow, for the imam bows before you and also rises before you; this is in exchange for that (that is, the time by which he bows earlier is the time by which he rises earlier from the bowing). When the imam says 'Sami'allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), you say 'Rabbana lakal-hamd' (Our Lord, to You belongs all praise); Allah will answer your supplication, for Allah Almighty has had these words said on the tongue of His Prophet: 'Sami'allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him). When he says the takbir and prostrates, you too say the takbir and prostrate, for the imam prostrates before you and rises before you; this is in exchange for that. When he is at the end (sitting), the first thing the imam among you should say is: 'At-tahiyyat' (All verbal, financial and physical acts of worship are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger)."
(b) In the narration of Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) there is not the statement that Allah Almighty had it said on the tongue of His Prophet: 'Sami'allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him).
