أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: " كُنَّا نُسَبِّحُ رُكُوعًا وَسُجُودًا وَنَدْعُو قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا " قَالَ: وَثنا مُعَاذٌ، عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: سُئِلَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الرُّكُوعِ، فَقَالَ: كُنَّا نَجْعَلُ الرُّكُوعَ تَسْبِيحًا ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that we used to glorify (Allah) in bowing and prostration, and supplicate while standing and sitting. The narrator said: Mu'adh narrated to us from al-Ash'ath, from al-Hasan, that Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about recitation in bowing, and he said: We used to recite (only) tasbih in bowing.
