It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: One night I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah al-Baqarah. I thought (to myself) that perhaps he would recite (only) a hundred verses and then bow, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept on reciting. Then I thought that he would complete the surah and then bow, but he kept on reciting, until he had recited Surah al-Nisa' and Al Imran as well. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed for about as long as his standing, saying: 'Subhana rabbiya al-'azim, subhana rabbiya al-'azim' (Glory be to my Lord the Magnificent). Then he raised his head and said: 'Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Allahumma rabbana laka al-hamd' (Allah has heard the one who praised Him; O Allah, our Lord, to You alone belongs all praise). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for a long time in the same way after bowing. Then he prostrated, and in prostration too he kept saying 'Subhana rabbiya al-a'la' (Glory be to my Lord the Most High) for a long time. Whenever he recited any verse of fear or of glorification, he would remember Allah.
