Bayhaqi 2545 — The Sunnah of placing the palms on the knees

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ الْعَامِرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: " كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي فَلَمَّا رَكَعْتُ قُلْتُ كَذَا وَطَبَّقَ يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: كُنَّا نَفْعَلُ هَذَا، ثُمَّ أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَرْفَعَ إِلَى الرُّكَبِ ".
It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Sa'd (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I was praying beside my father. When I bowed, I did like this. He joined his hands together and placed them between his legs. When my father finished the prayer, he said: "We too used to do this, but later we were commanded to place the hands on the knees."
