أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ بِهَمْدَانَ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْجَزَّارُ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا شَيْبَانُ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ " كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ مِنَ الظُّهْرِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ، وَكَانَ يُطَوِّلُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى، وَيُقَصِّرُ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ وَيُسْمِعُنَا الْآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا " رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ أَوْجُهٍ أُخَرَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى.
Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr, reciting Surah al-Fatihah and a surah in every rak'ah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would lengthen the first rak'ah and make the second somewhat shorter, and sometimes he would let us hear a verse.
