It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began the prayer, he would recite; and in the hadith of Warqa' it is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-shaytani al-rajimi wa hamzihi wa nafkhihi wa nafthih' (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Satan the accursed, from his whispering, from arrogance and from the puffing of magic).
Ata said: By hamz is meant madness, by nafth is meant poetry, and by nafkh is meant pride and arrogance.
