It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(For the people of Madinah,) between the east and the west is the qiblah."
Ibn al-Mujabbir is alone in narrating the first, and Ya'qub bin Yusuf al-Khallal is alone in narrating the second; the well-known version is the narration of the group (Hammad bin Salamah, Za'idah bin Qudamah, Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan and others) from Ubaydullah, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, from Umar as his own saying.
