وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أنبأ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ: كَانَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: " الْمُكَاتَبُ عَبْدٌ مَا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ دِرْهَمٌ، لَا يَرِثُ وَلَا يُورَثُ ".
Al-Sha'bi narrates from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the mukatab remains a slave as long as even one dirham remains due from him; he neither inherits nor will anyone else inherit from him.
