Bayhaqi 21494 — Clientage goes to the most senior of the freer's

Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with them), and I think he also mentioned Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), used to say: Wala' belongs to the most senior. He said: By the most senior is meant the one closest of them through the father.
