Chapter: One who slanders another with an offence carrying a hadd punishment or by denying his lineage, his testimony is rejected, and likewise one who frequently spreads tales or backbites

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ سِنَانٍ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " أَتَدْرُونَ مَا الْعِضَةُ "؟ قَالُوا: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ: " نَقْلُ الْحَدِيثِ مِنْ بَعْضِ النَّاسِ إِلَى بَعْضٍ لِيُفْسِدَ بَيْنَهُمْ ".
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what al-'idah is?" They said: Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is conveying the words of some people to others in such a way that strife breaks out between them." [Da'if]
