Chapter: One who slanders another with an offence carrying a hadd punishment or by denying his lineage, his testimony is rejected, and likewise one who frequently spreads tales or backbites

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ، أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ، سَمِعَ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ شَرِيكٍ يَقُولُ: شَهِدْتُ الْأَعْرَابَ يَسْأَلُونَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: هَلْ عَلَيْنَا حَرَجٌ فِي كَذَا؟ فَقَالَ: " عِبَادَ اللهِ، وَضَعَ اللهُ الْحَرَجَ إِلَّا مَنِ اقْتَرَضَ مِنْ عِرْضِ أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا، فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي حَرَّجَ "، ⦗٤١٦⦘ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا خَيْرُ مَا أُعْطِيَ الْعَبْدُ؟ قَالَ: " خُلُقٌ حَسَنٌ ".
Ziyad bin Ilaqah heard Usamah bin Sharik (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I came to some Bedouins who were asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Is there any sin upon us in such-and-such? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has lifted hardship from His servants, except that whoever violates the honour of his Muslim brother, that sin remains." They said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is the best thing that is given to a servant? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Good character."
