Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and with her was Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), reciting verses which were verses of his youth. The verse:
She is composed and chaste, never accused of any suspicion;
she does not rise each morning hungry to eat the flesh of unsuspecting women.
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: But you are not like that. Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Why do you allow him to come to you, when Allah Almighty says: {And the one among them who took upon himself the greater part of it, for him is a great punishment} [Surah al-Nur: 11]? She said: What punishment is greater than blindness? And she said that he used to defend the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
