Bayhaqi 21069 — The testimony of those given to tribal partisanship

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abdullah! Which handhold of Islam is the firmest?" I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "Friendship for the sake of Allah, and love and hatred for the sake of Allah."
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If a man singles out his own people for love, as long as he does not impose on others what is not lawful for him, then this is maintaining ties of kinship, not tribalism; and rarely is there a person in whom there is not something lovable and something disliked.
