Bayhaqi 21049 — Beautifying the voice with the Quran and dhikr

Al-Rabi' bin Sulayman (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) saying: "Whoever does not recite the Qur'an melodiously has nothing to do with us." A man said: (Does it mean) to be free of need through it? He said: That is not its meaning; rather, it means reciting it fluently (hadr) and in a moving, sorrowful tone (tahzin).
