Ata' bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this verse of the Qur'an: "O you who believe, wine, gambling, idols and divining arrows are filth from the work of Satan, so avoid them that you may succeed." [Surah al-Ma'idah: 90]
He said: It is in the Torah that Allah sent down the truth so that falsehood would be done away with, and He also declared games, musical instruments, drumming sticks and the like to be void.
(b) In the narration of Ibn Raja': "Images, poetry, wine and the like: whoever drinks it out of craving, by My Might I swear, I will keep him thirsty on the Day of Resurrection; and whoever does not drink it after it has been forbidden, I will give him to drink from Hazirat al-Quds (the Enclosure of Holiness)."
