Nafi' says that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard the sound of singing, so he put his fingers in his ears, moved off to one side of the road, and said to me: "O Nafi', do you hear anything?" I said: "No." Then he took his fingers out of his ears. He said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of singing and did like this.
(b) In the narration of al-Qadi: I was walking with Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). He heard the sound of singing, so he left the road and began saying to me: "Do you hear?" I said: "No." Then he returned to the road. Then he said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do."
