Bayhaqi 20987 — Reports condemning instruments of amusement such
قَالَ اللهُ جَلَّ ثَنَاؤُهُ: {وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللهِ} [لقمان: 6].
Allah, exalted be His praise, says: "And among the people is he who buys idle talk to lead (people) astray from the path of Allah." [Surah Luqman: 6]
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا عَبَّاسٌ الدُّورِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ النَّهْدِيُّ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ} [لقمان: ٦] قَالَ: " نَزَلَتْ فِي الْغِنَاءِ وَأَشْبَاهِهِ ".
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says regarding this verse, "And among the people is he who buys idle talk" [Surah Luqman: 6], that it was revealed about singing and musical instruments and things similar to them.
