أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، ثنا أَبُو قَبِيلٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، قَالَ: " لَأَنْ أَعْبُدَ صَنَمًا يُعْبَدُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَحَبُّ إِلِيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَلْعَبَ بِذِي الْمَيْسِرِ "، أَوْ قَالَ: " الْقِنِّينُ "، قَالَ: وَهِيَ عِيدَانٌ كَانَ يُلْعَبُ فِيهَا فِي الْأَرْضِ، وَرَأَيْتُهُ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ: بِذِي الْعَشَرَةِ.
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: It is dearer to me that I worship an idol that used to be worshipped in the Jahiliyyah than that I play gambling. This was (a game of) sticks with which people used to play on the ground.
