وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَالِينِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ، ثنا ⦗٢٨٢⦘ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا، وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ، كُلُّهُمْ بِمِصْرَ قَالُوا: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الشَّافِعِيَّ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ لِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ: " لَوْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ سَيْفَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ يَرْوِي حَدِيثَ الْيَمِينِ مَعَ الشَّاهِدِ لَأَفْسَدْتُهُ، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ، إِذَا أَفْسَدْتَهُ فَسَدَ. قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: سَيْفُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمَكِّيُّ ثِقَةٌ ثَبْتٌ عِنْدَ أَئِمَّةِ أَهْلِ النَّقْلِ..
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Hakam says that he heard Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) saying: Muhammad bin al-Hasan said to me: "Had I known that Sayf bin Sulayman narrates the hadith of the oath along with one witness, I would have declared it unsound." He said: I said: "O Abu Abdullah, if you had declared it unsound, it would have become unsound."
