أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِلْحَانَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَعَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ وَقَّاصٍ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ حَدِيثِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ قَالَ لَهَا أَهْلُ الْإِفْكِ مَا قَالُوا، فَبَرَّأَهَا اللهُ مِمَّا قَالُوا، وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ، قَالَتْ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: " يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَنْ يَعْذِرُنَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ قَدْ بَلَغَنَا أَذَاهُ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي، فَوَاللهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ فِي أَهْلِي إِلَّا خَيْرًا، وَلَقَدْ ذَكَرُوا رَجُلًا مَا عَلِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا خَيْرًا، وَمَا كَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَى أَهْلِي إِلَّا مَعِي "، فَقَامَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنَا أَعْذِرُكَ مِنْهُ، إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْأَوْسِ ضَرَبْتُ عُنُقَهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مِنْ إِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْخَزْرَجِ، أَمَرْتَنَا فَفَعَلْنَا أَمْرَكَ، قَالَتْ: فَقَامَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ وَهُوَ سَيِّدُ الْخَزْرَجِ، وَكَانَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا، وَلَكِنِ احْتَمَلَتْهُ الْحَمِيَّةُ، فَقَالَ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ: كَذَبْتَ لَعَمْرُ اللهِ، لَا تَقْتُلُهُ، وَلَا تَقْدِرُ عَلَى قَتْلِهِ، فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَمِّ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ: كَذَبْتَ لَعَمْرُ اللهِ، لَنَقْتُلَنَّهُ، فَإِنَّكَ مُنَافِقٌ، تُجَادِلُ عَنِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ، وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ، رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ يُونُسَ.
Urwah bin al-Zubayr, Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, Alqamah bin Waqqas and Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah (may Allah have mercy on them) narrate a hadith from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): when the slanderers said what they said, Allah Almighty declared her innocent. It is a long hadith. She said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the pulpit: "O company of Muslims! Who will relieve us of a man whose harm has reached us concerning the people of my household? By Allah, I know nothing but good about my family, and the man they have mentioned, I know nothing but good about him too; he never entered upon my family except with me." Then Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "O Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I will relieve you of him. If he is from the Aws, I will strike off his head, and if he is from our brothers of the Khazraj, then whatever you command (will be done)." Then Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), the chief of the Khazraj, stood up. He was a righteous man, but tribal zeal stirred him, and he said to Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "By Allah, you have lied! You will not kill him, nor are you able to." Then Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him), the cousin of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), stood up and said to Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him): "You have lied! By Allah, we will kill him. You are a hypocrite, arguing on behalf of the hypocrites."
