Zayd bin Aslam (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a man, who narrates from his father or his uncle (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Arafat. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the aqiqah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not like 'uquq. Whoever has a child born to him and wishes to slaughter an animal, let him do so." He (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the atirah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a right." He (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the fara', and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is valid, but it should not be slaughtered right at the start; rather, keep it among your wealth until it becomes a full-grown camel and then slaughter it. That is better than overturning your vessel, leaving your she-camel bereaved, and slaughtering it while its flesh is mixed with its hair."
(b) Abd al-Jabbar bin al-Ala' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him): Let that young one drink its mother's milk until it is two or three years old.
