Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Al-Mundhir bin Abi Usayd was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) after his birth. He (peace and blessings be upon him) placed him on his thigh while Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became occupied with something, so Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) lifted his son from the thigh of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Where is the child?" Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, we picked him up. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is his name?" Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So-and-so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, name him Mundhir." So he named him Mundhir.
