Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Ours is a land of game. I hunt there with trained dogs and with untrained dogs. Tell us what of this is lawful for us and what is unlawful." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What a trained dog hunts and holds for you, eat it, mentioning the name of Allah; and what an untrained dog hunts, if you are able to slaughter the game, then eat it, and if you do not get the chance to slaughter it, then do not eat."
(b) In the narration of Haywah it reads: "I hunt with my trained dog and with my untrained dog."
