Abdullah bin Abi al-Hudhayl says: Some of my family asked me to ask Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about certain matters. I wrote them on a sheet and came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) at a time when people were asking him questions. When the people had asked all the questions I had written, and I had not asked him anything, a Bedouin asked: I am a slave who looks after the camels of my household; a man asks me for water, should I give him water? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Do not give him water. The Bedouin said: What if I fear that he will perish? He said: Give him enough water to save his life, then inform your household. The Bedouin said: I kill game on the spot and I also wound it. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: What you bring down on the spot, eat; and what is wounded and dies somewhere far away, do not eat. I asked al-Hakam: What is isma'? He said: "Killing on the spot." I asked: What is inma'? He said: "Game that becomes hidden from you."
This has also been narrated through another route from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet), and it is da'if (weak).
