Musa bin Uqbah (may Allah have mercy on him) said about the campaign of Ta'if: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) camped on a hillock near the fortress of Ta'if for more than ten nights, fighting them. The narrator said: A group cut down grapevines to enrage them, and Banu Thaqif said: Do not ruin the property, for it will be either ours or yours. The narrator said: The Muslims sought permission to assault the people of the fortress, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think that we will conquer it, and permission has not been given to us for it yet."
