Bayhaqi 18058 — Prohibition of tying up a captured disbeliever to use

Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed by some youths of Quraysh who had tied up a bird and were shooting at it, and they had agreed that every arrow of theirs that missed would go to the owner of the bird. When they saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), they scattered. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked: "Who did this? May Allah curse whoever did this; for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who takes a living creature as a target."
