Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when this verse was revealed: "Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home) and those who strive in the path of Allah" [Surah al-Nisa: 95]. He said: Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) came while I was writing it. He said: O Messenger of Allah, you know that I am blind in my eyes, and if I had the strength to wage jihad, I would certainly wage jihad. Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: His (peace and blessings be upon him) thigh became very heavy upon my thigh, until it was about to break; then his (peace and blessings be upon him) state eased, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Write: 'Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), other than those with a disability, and those who strive' [Surah al-Nisa: 95]."
